This isn’t all that weird. Really, it isn’t. Yes, they’re very Nordic, and the Yiddish is accented a bit oddly. I know. And yes, it did feel a bit like (I imagine) a member of the Lakota nation must have felt watching Disney Indians or Iron-Eyes Cody on TV way back when.
But hey, Jewish music was never just for, or by, Jews. These folks – the group is called “Klezmer Klangen” – have as much right to play this stuff as Irving Berlin had to write “White Christmas.” They’re continuing a long and global tradition, moreover, that extends from Harry Belefonte and Paul Robeson to Don Byron and lord knows how many goyishe barmitzve shpilers from Vilnius to Great Neck.
Plus, Ramona (that’s the little blonde one) is a heart-stealer, irrespective of ethnicity. Enjoy.
